About Us

Our mission is to support the Jefferson County Commission in continuing to build and maintain an inclusive culture where ALL employees are respected and provided equitable opportunities.

The Affirmative Action Office was historically associated with investigating complaints of race and sex discrimination. However, it evolved in 2017 and was rebranded as the Equity & Inclusion Division (EID). As part of the Jefferson County Human Resources Department’s progression
under the Consent Decree and beyond, the EID’s vision is to support the County in creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture for all employees where respect and communication are embedded in every aspect of Jefferson County Commission’s operations.

The Equity & Inclusion Division is a neutral party and fact finder, whose major functions are to receive, investigate and remedy complaints of employment discrimination and harassment. We encourage employees to access the Equity & Inclusion Hotline at (844-759-0034) or visit the website at www.jccal.ethicspoint.com to report a complaint. Employees may also schedule a private and confidential consultation with a Business Partner in the EID who is willing to assist with their concerns.

The Equity & Inclusion Division is responsible for three key functions/services, which include Compliance, Policy Administration, and Equity and Inclusion Programs/Services.

  • Compliance includes Affirmative Action plans/reports, discrimination complaints (formal), unfair treatment complaints (informal), conflict management, mediation and internal reviews/audits.
  • Policy Administration includes policy development, policy interpretation, policy review appeals, disciplinary recommendations/approvals and ADA initial reviews/approvals.
  • Equity and Inclusion Programs/Services include developing various best practices programs, leadership coaching, outreach, networking, departmental recognition/awards and communication.

To execute these functions/services, EID works closely with supporting partners, which may include other divisions of the Human Resources Department, the County Attorney’s Office, Jefferson County Commission Leaders and the Personnel Board of Jefferson County, as appropriate.

We also want to invite ALL Jefferson County Commission employees to work with EID so that we can create an equitable and inclusive working environment TOGETHER!

EQUITY & INCLUSION HOTLINE

The EID has an Equity & Inclusion Hotline program that launched on June 25, 2018. This program provides an additional mechanism for reporting potential violation of safety, security, policy and/or ethical behavior, while providing Jefferson County Commission employees the option to report anonymously. The system also allows completion of an online questionnaire www.jccal.ethicspoint.com or through a confidential telephone call to the hotline number (844-759-0034) with a third party. Employees have the option to self-identify or report anonymously.

When determining whether you should self-identify or remain anonymous, consider the nature of your complaint. For example, if a reporter became aware of a potential violation that impacted the safety of others, reporting anonymously would be appropriate. On the other hand, if a reporter was sexually harassed, self-identifying may be best.

We value your opinions and encourage you to use this system to report any issues, concerns, questions or suggestions you feel are appropriate to bring forward. If you have any questions about the Equity & Inclusion Hotline, please do not hesitate to contact the Equity & Inclusion Division at 205-325-5535 or via email at equityandinclusion@jccal.org.
